HALIDE EDIP ADIVAR SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION:
This scholarship is awarded annually by the TSA Board, which acts as the =
committee with a chairperson appointed by the President. Monies =
supporting the Adivar Scholarship are maintained in a separate fund.The =
aim of the Adivar Scholarship is to introduce to Turkey students who =
have not had extensive prior experience in Turkey or Turkish studies. =
This $1000 scholarship is awarded to a qualified undergraduate in any =
discipline in support of travel to Turkey for the purpose of study or =
research. The successful applicant may use the scholarship to support =
participation in a Turkish language program or a work internship, or for =
study or research on Turkish culture and society. A scholarship =
applicant must currently be enrolled in a degree program at an =
institution of higher learning and must be a citizen or permanent =
resident of the United States or Canada. Applicants should submit four =
copies of a current curriculum vitae and of a two to four-page statement =
of purpose, including a clear statement of study or research plans, as =
well as one official transcript and three copies of the same. Two =
letters of recommendation from
professors familiar with the applicant's work should be forwarded =
directly to the TSA Secretary. [The winner may make use of his/her award =
during the following year (e.g., a scholarship awarded in March 2005 can =
be used for the summer of 2005 and/or during the ensuing academic =
year).]

The Turkish Studies Association will award a $300 prize for the best =
article (written in English) in the area of Turkish and Ottoman studies =
published in the two-year period 2003-2004. Nominations may be made by =
the authors, or colleagues, publishers, and friends. Four copies of the =
article should be provided along with 1 disk copy (preferably in Word), =
plus the recommender's name, address and e-mail, the address, phone =
number, and e-mail of the author, and the names and addresses of the =
author's Department Chairperson and Dean where appropriate.=20

THE SYDNEY N. FISHER GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER PRIZE

The Turkish Studies Association will award a $200 prize for the best =
paper written in English by a graduate student in Turkish or Ottoman =
studies during the academic year 2004/2005. The winning paper will be =
considered for publication in the Journal of the Turkish Studies =
Association. Papers may be submitted electronically (as a Word =
attachment) or on disk in Word format, and two paper copies must also be =
mailed to us. Submissions should include the author's address and phone =
number, names and addresses of the author's disciplinary mentor and =
Dean, and either a return e-mail address, or a stamped, addressed =
postcard for acknowledgement of receipt.

THE JAMES W. REDHOUSE STUDENT PRIZE COMPETITION FOR BEST PROGRESS IN THE =
TURKISH LANGUAGE
In recognition of the students who have made the best progress in =
Turkish in the academic year 2004/2005. The Turkish Studies Association =
will award up to four prizes of $100 each to students in each of four =
regions of the United States and Canada as determined by Area =
Coordinators and a committee composed of one member each of the American =
Association of Teachers of Turkic Languages and the Turkish Studies =
Association. Any student (graduate or undergraduate) who has completed a =
full one-year course at any level in modern Turkish or Ottoman at a =
university offering such courses in its regular program can be =
nominated.=20
