International Research Conference
"Twenty Years Later. The Soviet Man in the Post-soviet World"
14th-17th September, 2005
Irkutsk, Russia

2005 is the year of twenty-year anniversary from the beginning of the
period in the country history and personal biographies which is called
as perestroika. Perestroika conditionally divided Russian society life
into "soviet" and "post-soviet". The purpose of the conference is to
highlight the "link of times" in science and public discussions, to mark
succession and changes in post-soviet social practice, ideas, and life's
narratives.

The initiator and organizer of the conference is "The Center for
Independent Social Research and Education" in Irkutsk. The participating
of sociologists, historians, linguists, the representatives of other
social and humanitarian science for which the notion "soviet man" is
free from ideologically political estimations, while the epoch of
perestroika is interested as the social-cultural phenomenon and
individual experience of people grown up in soviet society, is expected.

Famous experts from science centers and universities of France,
Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Russia have already declared
of own consent and possibility to participate in the Conference.

Problem-Subject sphere of the Conference:

  - perestroika's sources in ideals, experience, public life of soviet
epoch;
  - the emergence of new social practice;
  - social innovations destiny;
  - the transformation of relations between man and authority;
  - changes in speech  everyday life;
  - changes of biographic scenarios; professional, generational, gender
    mensuration;
  - post-soviet mode of life: the change of patterns and practice.

The application on participating in the Conference may be sent before the
1st of March, 2005 to addresses:

or be placed on the special forum of Center's web site www.cnsio.irkutsk.ru.

The application should include the theme of report, its brief abstract
(near 200 words) and short CV.

The application may be written on Russian, English, French or German
languages.

The working language of the Conference is Russian.

If the help of the translator is necessary, please, point out in your
application. We also would like you to write the accepted transcription
of your name and last name on Cyrillic alphabet.
