INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON BRITISH AND UNITED STATES IMPERIALISM
IN AFRICA, THE CARIBBEAN, CENTRAL AMERICA, AND THE MIDDLE EAST
QUEEN=92S UNIVERSITY, KINGSTON, ONTARIO, CANADA
MAY 15-18, 2006
Call for Papers:
We invite paper and panel proposals on any aspect of British and/or
American imperialism in Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, and the
Middle East (from the eighteenth century to the present day). Proposals
from all disciplines are welcome, including: History; Politics;
Economics; Language(s) and Literature; Media Studies; Law; Social
Science; Gender Studies; Cultural Studies; Religious Studies; Geography;
the Sciences. We particularly welcome contributions that compare and/or
contrast British and United States policies, practices, and legacies.
Areas of interest include, but are not restricted to, issues of:
=95 Formal and informal modes of imperialism and colonization
=95 Environment and resource exploitation
=95 War, genocide, and humanitarian intervention
=95 Corporations and the movements of national and global capital
=95 Mapping and borders
=95 Labour and class relations
=95 Public memory (archives, monuments, museums=85)
=95 Race, sex, and gender
=95 Religion
=95 Writing and narrative
=95 Alliances, including political/cultural relations between Britain
and the United States
=95 Anti-colonial resistance, revolution, and insurgency
