*2005 Berkshire Conference on the History of Women*

The 13th Berkshire Conference on the History of Women
(http://www.berksconference.org/) will be held June 2-5, 2005 on the
campus of Scripps College in Claremont, California. This international
conference is held every three years.

We invite remote* participation from women's or gender historians for a
session on "Crossing Geography, Culture, and Time with Technology:
Engaging in Women's and Gender History at the Turn of the 21st Century,"
a hands-on technology presentation. The session has been accepted and
will take place on Friday June 2, 2005 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM PST.

We seek two or three women's or gender historians who use technology to
enhance teaching, learning, and/or research in creative or innovative
ways that can be demonstrated to the conference session audience. Using
Macromedia Breeze's simple web interface, historians in any part of the
world can share their computer desktops to show how they use technology.
Remote presenters will be able to speak with conference participants at
Scripps College and with the conference moderator, Dr. Ellen Wagner,
Director of Global Higher Education at Macromedia, who will be in San
Francisco during the session. Video images of the conference moderator
and remote participants are part of Breeze's web interface.

*REMOTE historians will not physically attend the conference; they will
join the session live via computer through Breeze's state-of-the-art
conferencing system. Remote participants only need a computer with
high-speed Internet access and a standard web browser, and an
inexpensive web camera connected to their computer. Most colleges have
these simple web cameras; they can be purchased for $50 - $125.

The conference theme is "Sin Fronteras: Women's Histories, Global
Conversations." We prefer presentations that involve global histories
addressed through examples or the specialist historians involved. Remote
participants might share a course website, digital student projects, an
electronic presentation, online resources, computer-based research
tools, etc.

Proposal should include:

   1. a title for your presentation
   2. full contact information (address, phone, fax, and email address)
   3. your website address if available
   4. a one paragraph abstract of your presentation
   5. a one page summary of your presentation
   6. a brief curriculum vitae
   7. a description of the computer hardware and Internet connection
that you will use for the presentation

The deadline for receipt of all materials has been extended to *March 1,
2005*.

Please see the session website (web address provided below) for more
information about the videoconferencing portion of this session, online
examples of Breeze communications software in action, an abstract of the
full session, and details about proposal submission.
