The DSCA Journal The Danish Society for Central Asias
Electronic
Quarterly

Deadline: Monday, September 19, 2005

As a part of the activities of the Danish Society for Central Asia (DSCA), we
published the first issue of The DSCA Journal in July 2005. The DSCA Journal is
a quarterly, electronic publication available free of charge through
subscription or download, and the focus is on Central Asian history, language,
culture, religion, art, music, architecture, economy, geography, nature,
archaeology and environment, as well as contemporary social, political,
security, and ethnic issues. The area covered by the Society primarily includes
Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan;
the Chinese province of Xinjiang; and the northern provinces of Pakistan. Areas
adjacent to Central Asia can also be treated, particularly if the topic of the
article is important to the region as a whole. The e-journal is primarily in
English (with summary in Danish), but articles in Danish, Swedish and Norwegian
can also be accepted (with summary in English). Currently, more than
1.000 people subscribe to the Journal, and there is approximately 500
downloads/month from our website http://www.centralasien.dk. The aim of the
Journal is to disseminate relevant, popular, and new information and knowledge
on Central Asia to both scholars and laymen with an interest in the region.

For the forthcoming issue of the Journal we have decided to focus on
Historical Aspects of Experiences with Modernization and Modernity in
Afghanistan, and with this broad topic, we invite scholars and
non-scholars to write an article, and submit it to the Journal. All relevant
approaches, perspectives and observations are welcome in order to produce a
varied and inter-disciplinary feature.

Although we prefer new, unpublished work, the Editorial Board will also consider
older material. Articles should generally be of common interest to academic
researchers and Central Asia enthusiasts alike, and should therefore be written
in uncomplicated English. The Editorial Board will also accept articles in
Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian, accompanied by a resume or abstract in English.
Articles should generally be no more than 3.000 words.

Polemical articles with arguments founded on a particular political or religious
point of view will not be accepted unless they are based on scientific or
theoretical groundwork.

Due to the non-profit, non-governmental nature of the Danish Society for Central
Asia, we will not be able to pay the contributors.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 19, 2005. If you are
interested in contributing, please mail us a short description of the topic of
your article as soon as possible (info@centralasien.dk). All contributions must
be submitted according to the general guidelines please refer to the
website ("News" category). Please also attach a description of your background,
affiliation, and contact details. The Editorial Board will decide which articles
are to be published, and all contributors will be notified by e-mail
around September 25.

Best regards,

The Editorial Board of The DSCA Journal
