Preliminary search for a position in the history of Turkey

Pending final approval by the university administration, the Department =
of History at Istanbul Bilgi University invites informal applications =
for a
position in the history of Turkey (open rank), to begin September 1st, =
2005.=20
=20
Applicants should hold a PhD at the time of employment. As English is =
the language of instruction, active and passive versatility in both =
English and Turkish is required.
=20
Candidates should demonstrate teaching experience and an excellent =
research record in any aspect or time in the history of Turkey, though a =
focus on late Ottoman/Republican periods and/or intellectual and =
cultural history may attract particular interest on the side of the =
department. Interest in theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches =
would match the intellectual atmosphere of the faculty.=20

Teaching load is 9 hours/week for senior and 12 hours/week for junior =
faculty. Teaching includes a broad variety of undergraduate courses and
participation in graduate programs (to be opened in 2006) with a special =
focus on cultural and intellectual history. Staff members are expected =
to engage in extra-curricular departmental activities.=20
