Jihad Movements in a Comparative Perspective
The Institute for Oriental and Islamic Studies at the University of=20
Bochum is
currently preparing a joint research project on Jihad movements of the=20
19th and
20th centuries. Depending on funding, the project will start in May 2005=20
for a
duration of three years.
Our own focus will be on North Africa as well as the Caucasus and=20
Central Asia.
As the project is guided by a comparative approach, we are calling for=20
proposals
for case studies from scholars specializing on Islamic movements and Jiha=
d
groups from diverse geographical contexts, including, but not restricted =
to,
countries like Nigeria, Algeria, Sudan, Indonesia, Palestine,=20
Afghanistan, Saudi
Arabia, Central Asia as well as trans-national groups.
Project participants will be invited to a series of workshops and=20
conferences,
and will be offered the opportunity to contribute to the subsequent
publications.
In addition to the full coverage of travel and accommodation costs for th=
e
attendance of the workshops, limited funding will be available for archiv=
al
and/or library research for the preparation of selected case studies.
Interested scholars are requested to send a short note indicating their=20
field of
expertise and the intended research topic until 10th September 2004=20
