This multidisciplinary conference aims to draw together research
students from across the arts,
humanities and social sciences whose work relates to aspects of
masculinity studies.
Possible topics for 20-25 minute papers might include:
Masculinity in literature: narrative voices / narrative cross-dressing
Problematising masculinity: the 'new' man and the 'old' man
Men's realms: spheres of masculinity / male activity
Different cultural representations of masculinity: in art, theatre,
dance, film, music;
European / Western / Eastern masculinities; religious masculinities;
Classical masculinities;
Modern / contemporary masculinities
The future of masculinity: futuristic visions of men; utopian /
dystopian maleness; the end
of masculinity?
About the conference
This two-day conference will take place at Gregynog, the University of
Wales conference centre.
Organised by four research students based at Swansea University, the
event is supported by the
Arts and Humanities Research Board, and GENCAS, the Centre for Research
into Gender in Culture
and Society (University of Wales, Swansea).
