This panel will reconsider conceptual logics of imperialisms, broadly
construed. We are seeking papers that approach the topic obliquely,
aiming to draw together a group of people considering formal operations
of imperial gestures - what are the metaphorics at work in notions of
distance/proximity, possession/dispossession, introversion/extroversion,
and incorporation/excorporation? How do such logics of imperialism
operate in arenas such as love, in psychic states such as melancholia or
modes such as identification, in sympathy as a form of suturing
distance, in notions of a 'nomos' of the earth, in the poetics of
apostrophic address, in conceptions of acquisition, in notions of
personhood and subjectivity, and so forth? If imperialism is irreducible
to any particular colonial form, what are some of the other domains over
which an imperial logic might be said to preside?
