CALL FOR PROPOSALS
7TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM
Race, Gender, Class, Sexuality: Intersections and (Dis)Contents
February 25 & 26, 2005
Miami University. Oxford, Ohio
The Women's Studies Program and the Black World Studies Program are
pleased to sponsor our 7th Annual Symposium on Race, Gender, Class, and
Sexuality. The symposium will showcase critical and cultural
perspectives that examine the spaces in-between or the convergences
among race, gender, class, and sexuality in local, national or
transnational contexts.
Keynote Speakers: Dr. Susan Jarratt, Professor of English and
Comparative Literature, University of California, Irvine, author of
Rereading the Sophists: Classical Rhetoric Rifigured; and Dr. Gwendolyn
Pough, Associate Professor of Women's Studies and Writing, Syracuse
University, author of Check It While I Wreck It: Black Womanhood,
Hip-Hop Culture, and The Public Sphere
Possible presentations include historical and cross-cultural
perspectives, or critical theory and interdisciplinary approaches that
explore the intersections and their (dis)contents concerning multiple
and disparate subject positions. A variety of formats are possible,
including film or performance pieces, roundtable discussions, and paper
presentations. We encourage proposals on works in progress as well as
completed works. We are interested in presentations by activists,
artists, practitioners, and scholars (including faculty and graduate and
undergraduate students) from all disciplinary and interdisciplinary
perspectives.
Please submit a 200-300 word abstract of either a panel proposal or
individual presentation. Include the title of the panel or
presentation, name(s) and address(es) (including email) of the
presenter(s), preferred format, and audio-visual equipment requests.
Submissions must be received on or before December 1, 2004. E-mail
submission is preferred. You will receive notification of the status on
your proposal in December. Direct submissions to: wms@muohio.edu.
