*Breuninger Fellowship in Environmental History/German Historical
Institute*
The Breuninger Foundation (Stuttgart) and the German Historical
Institute, Washington, invite applications for the Breuninger Fellowship
in Environmental History. The fellowship is open to European scholars
whose work requires teh use of archival or library resources in the
United States. Preference will be given to scholars working on doctoral
dissertations or post-doctoral projects in comparative European-American
or transatlantic history; researchers in environmental histoy who are
not working toward degrees or whose work focuses on areas other than
Europe and the U.S. are also encouraged to apply. The fellowship will
cover travel expenses to and within the U.S. and will carry a stipend of
up to 5,000 euros, dependent upon the length of time required for the
research. The recipient will be affilitated with the German Historical
Institute but will not be required to be in residence for the entire
duration of the fellowship.
To apply, submit a CV, brief project description (in English), and a
research plan (including the source materials to be consulted and a
tentative schedule) to the address below, or b.thomas@ghi-dc.org.
The deadline for applications is *June 30, 2004*. Applications will be
reviewed by a selection committee representing the European Society for
Environmental History and the German Historical Institute.
