21st-22nd November 2004 Liverpool John Moores University

Abstracts of 250 words invited by 1st August 2004

Topics might include: popular fiction in any medium (e.g. television,
film, radio, print fiction, periodicals, graphic novels, advertising,
computer games and animation), or genre and from any historical period;
relationships between producers and consumers, the cultural practice of
communities which identify themselves as audiences, individuated
relationships with narrative media, historic audiences, heterogeneous
audiences for mainstream texts, perceived audiences, reader response,
spectatorship and online communities. Discussions specifically on
methodology and the evaluation of empirical strategies are particularly
welcome. We are interested in research in progress as well as completed
projects. We welcome interdisciplinary perspectives considering popular
fiction across any media and which examine cultural practices associated
with audiences and popular texts.
