City Spaces

This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be held at
(dis)junctions: theory reloaded at the University of California
Riverside=92s 12th Annual Humanities Graduate Conference on April 8-9,
2005.

Cities are often seen (if seen at all) playing supporting roles in
film, literature and music. This panel puts city spaces at the
forefront by asking how do cities really affect the works in which they
appear? One could argue the city is indispensable in many of the works
we read, see, and hear. What is a New Yorker, without New York for
instance? Possible proposals may cover, but are not limited to the
following:

Los Angeles
New York
Paris
Mexico City
London
Fictional cities (e.g. Springfield in _The Simpsons_)
The Flaneur
Downtown
The Megalopolis
Cities in Film, Art, Music, t.v.
Cities in Literature
Crowds
Public Transportation
Freeways

One page abstracts should be e-mailed to julianfelix@sbcglobal.net by
January 7, 2005 (text in the body of the message; please no
attachments). The submissions should be no longer than 250 words.

Proposals sent via snail mail should be sent to:
