LOCAL HEALING TRADITIONS AND SHAMANS - CALL FOR PAPERS AND INVITATION 
FOR PARTICIPATION”
This session will focus on local traditions of healing the world over, 
and bring in-depth analysis and comprehensive understanding of the role 
and healing abilities of shamans. Shamanistic practices of healing and 
native concepts of health will be discussed. The social history of the 
state’s role in influencing and hindering local healing practices. Women 
shamans and gender issues related to local healing practices. 
Psychedelics and entheogenic plants in healing. The role of religion in 
indigenous medicine. Psychiatry and shamanism. The incorporation of 
traditional healing knowledge into biomedical practice and biomedical 
institutions. Issues related to biomedicine versus traditional healing. 
Etiological approaches in indigenous medicine. Anthropology of 
consciousness. Social consequences of the collapse of buildings and 
other man-made accidents will also be examined. Please find updated

The International Forum for Social Sciences and Health (IFSSH) welcomes 
applications from scholars, administrators, researchers, interested

health; Social history of health and disease; Social science education 
for health sciences; Sociology of dental health; Suicides and cross 
cultural issues in mental health; The economics of well being; The 
future of hospitals and patient care; The psychology of violence; 
Violence as a public health issue; and Social aspects and prevention of
