CONTROVERSIES OF DIET AND NUTRITION IN THE 21ST CENTURY WAR - CALL FOR
PAPERS AND INVITATION FOR PARTICIPATION”
The session will discuss present day controversies surrounding diet and
nutrition, with particular emphasis on controversies over milk products,
vegetarianism, the ethics of food advertisements, debates over
re-enforcing mother’s milk, controversies on nutrient recommendations
and low fat and high carbohydrate versus low carbohydrate diets. Diets
used in healing such as diets for cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Organic food versus commercially grown products. “Tastes that kill”
(debates over monosodium glutamate and whether MSG addictive is
responsible for obesity). Nutritional “cults” as sub-cultures. What are
dietary guidelines for different populations, overcoming the issues of
inadequate food and hunger? The treatment and prevention of the
overweight and the obesity epidemic. Critical interpretation of
nutrition supplements and the use of new technology to improve yields of
crops such as genetic modification. Appropriate diets for different age
groups. Practices and folk perceptions of food and what is of
nutritional value. The ethics of food manufacturers. Regulations set by
governments. The role of the food industry as well as the importance of
food and nutrition communication will be viewed from the perspective of
public health and prevention to make sound recommendations. Social
consequences of the collapse of buildings and other man-made accidents
will also be examined. Please find updated information as regards the
