Panel Topic: European Migrant Cinemas
Society for Cinema and Media Studies
March 31-April 3, 2005
London, England
http://www.cmstudies.org
Migrants have become increasingly active in numerous European national
cinemas. While early films by or about migrants focussed almost entirely
on social and political issues, recent films reflect and shape shifting
national identities in Germany, France, Great Britain, and elsewhere.
This panel seeks to examine the impact of migrant filmmakers in Europe.
Topics may include, but are not limited to: representation of cultural,
national, or ethnic identities; issues of transnationalism and
transculturalism; experiences of first, second, and third generation
immigrants; historical developments of migrant cinema; aesthetics of
migrant cinema; etc.
