The conference will have as it's theme Region, Nation, Belonging and papers are invited on topics
relating to:
Societies in transition
Change Nationhood
Redefining nationalism
Globalisation, region and nation
Diasporic identities
Migration and shifting notions of belonging
Life writing and a sence of Place
Belonging, memory and remembering

Background to the association:
The first step toward the creation of an association for the study of literatures of region and
nation was taken in 1986. In August of that year the first series of bi-annual international
conferences exploring all aspects of natand region in literatues written in English was held in
Aberdeen, Scotland. Since then, as the international network has grown, the following locations have
hosted the conferences:
Nottingham (1988)
Luxembourg (1990)
Swansea (1992)
Bratislava (1994)
Saint John, New Brunswick (1996)
Germersheim, Germany (1998)
Ostersund, Sweden (2000)
Durban, South Africa (2002)
