Transitions beyond Midlife: Feminist Responses to Retirement and Other Changes
National Women's Studies Association (NWSA)
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
June 17-20, 2004
Abstract deadline: December 1, 2003
The theme of NWSA's 25th annual conference is subtitled "Barriers, Borders,
and Intersections." The NWSA's Aging and Ageism Caucus is sponsoring two
panels devoted to those transitions that happen after midlife. Possible
topics include
- retirement and/or starting a new career
- relocating (to be closer to or further from family, to live in a smaller
dwelling place, to live in a warmer climate, to move out of the city, to
move into a city...)
- empty nest (enjoyable, lonely, or mixed)
- death of a parent, partner, or child
- changes in physical ability
- changes in social status
- physical markings of age
If it happens after midlife, it involves a barrier, a border, and/or an
intersection, and you would like to present a scholarly consideration of
it, send 250 word abstracts or full papers by December 1st, 2003. Email
submissions preferred but not required.
