Call for Papers
Today's world is characterized by the ease of movement by its inhabitants,
whether in a car moving along a highway, a high-speed train on a magnetic
rail or walk through city streets, all the way to the last check of our
e-mails, we operate in an over lapping network of grids. In both obvious and
hidden ways, these grids order our movements, work, thoughts, leisure time
and even our dreams.' (New Museum, NYC)
The focus of this year's conference will be on transnational flows of
capital, people, information, and images that are transforming our worlds;
we encourage papers that study the implications of movements across
national, gender, literary and filmic genres, socio-economic, and class
boundaries. We encourage topics such as cross-border governances,
international migration, diasporic and exilic cinema, contemporary
discourses of globalization, popular cultural and transnational
subjectivities, movements of artifacts across national boundaries,
interracial boundaries, breaking of literary genre boundaries, etc.
We invite faculty, administrators, and staff to participate in delivering
presentations of unpublished works or reading creative works within the
conference theme.
Those wishing to present papers should submit a title and a 100-150-word
abstract outlining the proposed topic, along with both an email and postal
address. Individuals interested in reading creative works should submit
samples of their work.
Manuscripts should not exceed 10 double-spaced pages of typescript so that
papers can be presented in a twenty-minute presentation. (Individual
submissions only.)
Final selection of conference participants will be made by December 12,
2003.
Deadline for Submissions: November 21, 2003
