The South Central Modern Language Association Conference will be held
October 30 - November 1, 2003 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The South Central American Dialect Society's topic is "Community and
Individual Identity in Media and Literature." This session welcomes
papers that focus on the multifaceted uses of language. How are
discourse communities formed and shaped? How does language become an
identity? How does the media, particularly journalism, manipulate
language? What is the value in ambiguous rather than clear wording?
 How trustworthy is language?

We encourage submissions from a variety of disciplines.

Send abstracts as attachments by March 15, 2003. Invitations will be
forwarded no later than April 1.

Thank you,
