POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
IN CENTRAL ASIAN AND ISLAMIC STUDIES
AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY
The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and the
I.I.S.
Center on Democracy, Development and Rule of Law at Stanford University
are
pleased to announce one-year post-doctoral fellowship in the social
sciences. The fellowship is open to scholars in social science
disciplines
(Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology) who
focus
on contemporary issues of Islam, ethnic identity, security,
democratization
or social development in Central Asia. Residence in the Stanford area,
teaching of a one-quarter undergraduate course, and participation
activities
at both CREEES and CDDRL are required during the appointment.
Applicants must have been awarded the Ph.D. no later than August 31,
2003
and may not be more than five years beyond receipt of the doctoral
degree.
Fellowships may be given to those who hold continuing, assistant
professor-level teaching positions. The award carries a 10-month stipend
of
$40,000 plus medical insurance coverage.
Applications should include a current curriculum vitae, two letters of
reference, graduate transcripts, a 5-page double-spaced plan of research
and
writing for the year of appointment and a brief statement of possible
course
topics.
