cfp: The Racialized Body: Race as Lived and Theorized (grad)
[SUBMISSION DATE CHANGE](3/1/03; 4/26/03)
The University of Chicago
Minority Graduate Students Association
presents our
Tenth Annual "Eyes on the Mosaic" Graduate Student Conference:
The Racialized Body: Race as Lived and Theorized
April 26th, 2003
Call for Papers
Deadline for Abstract Submission: March 1, 2003
This conference is designed for graduate students to present their
current
research on the work of race in daily interactions (how "bodies" are
racialized) and the way such processes are reproduced (thus contributing
to
the "body" of scholarship on race). Successful papers will explore the
relationship between race and other meaningful aspects of social life
(gender, socio-economic status, sexuality), and use creative theoretical
approaches to interrogate forms of racialization across space and time.
We
also welcome submissions that address the relationship between race and
scientific practice.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to: Race and Subject
Formation, Race in Literature, the Racialization of Socio-economic
Distinctions, Discourses on Slavery, Race Bias in International Policy,
Globalization, the Production of Diasporas, Citizenship, Race as
Constitutive of Modernity (and Beyond), Scientific Racism, Welfare
Reform,
Gentrification, and Inequalities in Formal Education.
Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts should be submitted, along with your contact information
(name,
institutional affiliation, department, e-mail address) to
MGSA2000@hotmail.com,
by 12 noon on March 1, 2003.
