ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURE 
CALL FOR PAPERS 

MID-ATLANTIC POPULAR CULTURE/AMERICAN CULTURE ANNUAL CONFERENCE 
November 6-9, 2003 
Wilmington, Delaware 

The environment is arguably the most significant aspect of human culture and 
society, pervading every aspect of our personal and professional lives, from 
where we live, work and play to how we dispose of our waste. “Environment 
and Culture” as a topic explores the various ways in which the environment 
shapes and is shaped by human action/interaction with the environment. 
Papers may address both theoretical and practical aspects of environment and 
culture. 
Papers from all disciplines and historical periods are invited, and papers 
from graduate students are encouraged. 
Full panels and roundtable proposals are also welcome. 

Past topics include, but are not limited to: 
Contemporary environmental crises 
Environmental issues in the arts 
Environmental philosophy 
Land use/abuse 
Natural history 
Politics and the environment 
Studies of particular environments 
Technology and the environment
