On Monday afternoon, September 16, from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., Dr. Meredith
McClain, Associate Professor of German at Texas Tech University, will offer
a free slide lecture in the auditorium of the International Cultural Center,
601 Indiana Avenue. The lecture titled, "The Treasures of Quedlinburg,"
relates to a photographic exhibit of these treasures on view in the Hall of
Nations at the ICC. The exhibit opened June 5 when a delegation from
Quedlinburg visited Lubbock and was given a formal reception in the ICC.
Before the exhibit leaves Lubbock, Dr. McClain will discuss some of the
historic details surrounding the treasures, while explaining the ties
between Texas Tech and the German state of Saxon-Anhalt. Projects underway
between Lubbock and Quedlinburg and Texas and Saxon-Anhalt include a tour
for German-Texans to sites included in the slide presentation. The public is
welcome to this free lecture. Students of German may receive extra credit
for attendance and members of the German-Texan Heritage Society will find
the tour outline to be of special interest. For more information, call
744-6033. Dr. McClain's e-mail address is MeredithMcClain@cs.com.
