International Terrorism:Turkish Model for Civil Society in Islamic
Countries

DUNTON TOWER, ROOM 2017
CARLETON UNIVERSITY
MARCH 29-30, 2002

Following the 911 attack on the USA by terrorists and the war on
international terrorism, building a civil society in the Muslim world
has
become a critical and urgent challenge of world peace and security. But
construction of a civil society in the Muslim world is a daunting task.
How
can this task be accomplished? What models are there to guide the task?
What
should be role of the USA and Western powers such as Canada in this
task?

The overall aim of this 2-day Conference is to initiative informed and
objective discussion of these questions. The Conference is based on the
Turkish secular model, by far the most advanced in the entire Muslim
world
and reflects the assumption that the Turkish model offers a useful model
to
guide this task, even though the Turkish democracy itself is an
unfinished
project.
