The Faculty of Language and Literature invites applications for
the professorship of History of Islamic Art and Archaeology (as the
successor to Prof. Finster); remuneration is on the C3 salary scale.
The appointment will commence from 1 October, 2003.
The applicant should have proven experience in a number of areas
relating to the history of art and archaeology in the Islamic world.
The subject offers a Master's programme which is unique in Germany
and the introduction of a Bachelor degree is presently being planned.
Close co-operation is desired on the part of the applicant with the
other disciplines of Oriental Studies, the Centre for Medieval Studies
and the Institute for Archaeology, Architectural Research and the
Preservation of Ancient Monuments. Participation is expected in the
international exchange programmes.
Applicants are required to have completed their studies at an
institute of higher education and to be in possession of teaching
skills, a doctorate, Habilitation, or to provide evidence of an
equivalent academic qualification.
At the time of their appointment, applicants should not be older
than 52 years of age.
The university would like to increase the proportion of women in
research and teaching and thus expressly invites qualified female
academics to apply for this post. Severely disabled applicants will
be given preference in the case of equal suitability.
