ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS LITERATURE AND LAW

The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a scholar
and
teacher beginning August 2003. Rank is open at either the tenured or
tenure-track levels with specialization in Islamic religious literature
and
law. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses on
Islam as
needed. Beyond that, the successful candidate will be expected to teach
in one
or more of the following areas: the Qur'an, Islamic legal traditions,
Islamic
ethics, Islamic philosophical literature, the development of Islam as a
religion, and other related specialties, as well as undertaking the
direction
of graduate research. The Committee welcomes applications from
candidates who
are proficient in more than one Middle Eastern language.

The appointment will be 100% in the department best suited to the
applicant's area of expertise, but candidates must be capable of
contributing to the development of Middle East and Islamic Studies more
broadly at the University, including the Religious Studies Program.
