This theme is part of the international and interdisciplinary conference
on
"Culture and the State," to be held at the University of Alberta,
Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada, from May 2-5, 2003.
Anarchy
Anarchism is unique among contemporary political movements for
desiring the creation of libertarian modes of economic and political
self-governance that will replace the modern state and capitalism. Since
anarchism's beginnings in the19th-century, anarchists the world over
have developed a rich corpus of theory and practice related to politics,
the
arts, economics, history, ecology, and much more. This theme examines
anarchist visions of a world without borders or exploitation.
We invite proposals from all academic disciplines as well as
submissions from anarchist activists and cultural producers. We
welcome proposals to present papers, art work or creative actions,
particularly those that address contemporary issues. We welcome the
use of multimedia and presenters/artists/activists should specify any
media-related needs they may have in their proposal.
Five presentation panels and/or fields of art production/actions are
proposed:
Anarchism and the State
Anarchism and Culture
Anarchist Autonomy
Anarchism in Art
Anarchism in Alberta
Please submit an abstract no more than 200 words for a presentation (20
minutes), art work, or action to the theme coordinator Allan Antliff, by
15
January, 2003. Email submissions are preferred.
