<body class='hmmessage'><div dir='ltr'>You are very much welcomed to the International Colloquium on <strong>Social Movements Media Networking and Politics (SMNP)</strong>, on 13-14 March 2013, in Izmir, Turkey.<br><BR>Organized by the <strong>Faculty of Communication</strong> at the<strong> Izmir University of Economics</strong>, the colloquium will be honored by the keynote speakers Professor <strong>John D. H. Downing </strong>and <span><strong>Marco Kühne </strong>(</span><span>Graswurzel.tv/Moving media e.V.)<strong>. <br></strong></span><BR><span><strong><br> </strong></span><BR>New
 waves of dissent in the 21st century register diverse repertoires of 
action in local, national, regional and global scale. Prominent is the 
role of media in the communication and networking of relevant practices.
 In this context, the colloquium aims to contribute to the broad debate 
on the social, cultural and political aspects of the interplay between 
social movements and media, across diverse agents and structures.<BR><br><BR>A
 two day series of presentations and conversations, the colloquium 
brings together scholars and activists whose research and practices meet
 in collective actions, mobilization, alternative cultural and media 
projects, social media usages, networked activism, social change and 
democracy. Contributions in the colloquium cover a wide spectrum of 
interests – Arab Spring, European Movements, the Occupy Movement, 
activism and alternative mediating practices in Turkey – looking to 
bring out similarities and differences of the various ways people employ
 traditional and new communication technologies to organize
