<div>This year, our conference features 22 panels, amounting to 82 individual presentations. Select titles include “Ottoman Voices of the 16th Century,” “Theology and Metaphysics,” “Cosmologies and Geographies in Transcultural Perspectives,” “Schools, Prisons, and Sanitation,” “Liminality: Classical Arabic Poetry,” “Revolutionary Discourses in Iran,” “Power and Legitimacy in the Formative Period of Islam,” “Perceptions of Islamic Archaeology, Past and Present,” “Colonial Anxieties,” and “Perspectives on the ‘Arab Spring’ of 2011.”</div>

<div>Our keynote speakers are Professor <b>Suzanne Stetkevych</b>, Indiana University, Bloomington, with a talk entitled “Takhmis as Verbal Reliquary: Enshrinement, Inscription and Performance in Shams al-Din al-Fayyumi’s <i>Takhmis al-Burdah</i>,” and Professor <b>Stephen Dale</b>, Ohio State University, with a talk entitled “Hadhrami Merchants and Malayali Muslims: the Origin of the Islamic Community of Southwest India.” Other highlights will be a concert of Arabic, Turkish, and Persian music by the Middle East Music Ensemble, and the famous lamb roast dinner, arranged by the Middle East Studies Students’ Association.</div>
