Studies of/in the Republic of Turkey: Issues and Dynamics at Work</b></font></font></p>

socio-political developments have rendered cultural studies of the
Republic of Turkey an ever-widening field of study. Whether ethnic,
religious or ideological, cultural allegiances and pacts of
forgetting are being realigned, restructured or renegotiated. The
imperatives of globalization collude, leading apparently to a
probable paradigm shift in a society that was once thought to be
purely Western-oriented. Questioning both the foundational maxims and
the insistent new requests has become a cultural studies task.</font></font></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;" align="justify"><font
 face="URW Bookman L"><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2">Endorsed
by the Cultural Studies Association of Turkey, this panel proposes to
discuss the theoretical and methodological aspects of cultural
studies in Turkey. It intends to focus on current issues and dynamics
at work, and make an updated inventory of the state of the art, as a
follow-up to Laurence Raw's and G&ouml;n&uuml;l Pultar and Ay&#351;e L. K&#305;rtun&ccedil;'s
essays on the subject in <i>Review of Education, Pedagogy, and
Cultural Studies</i> in 2004.</font></font></p>
