Conference</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Garamond size=4>University of Chicago, May 9-10, 2008</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Garamond size=4>We invite graduate students and faculty in the 
humanities and social sciences to submit papers for the 23rd annual Middle East 
History and Theory Conference, to be held May 9th and 10th, 2008, at the 
University of Chicago. We welcome a broad range of submissions, from across the 
disciplines (including, but not limited to, anthropology, art history, cinema 
and media studies, history, literature, sociology and religion) and dealing with 
any topic that has affected the Middle East from the 7th century onwards.<SPAN 
class=008084915-16012008> </SPAN>This year, the keynote address will be 
delivered by Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia 
University. A plenary session speaker will be announced soon. The conference 
will also feature a free concert by the University of Chicago's Middle East 
Music Ensemble and a complimentary lamb roast at the end of proceedings 
Saturday.</FONT></P>

accommodated.</FONT></P>
