<BR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">The professorship will focus on societies, cultures and history of the modern Islamic world and be attached to the Oriental Seminar of the University of Zurich. The person appointed will be also expected to develop and coordinate a new interdisciplinary Masters Course in Gender Studies at the University and be responsible for this newly established field.</FONT></SPAN></P>

<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">Candidates with habilitation or equivalent qualifications (e.g. a second book), a good command of Arabic and another language of the Islamic world as well as knowledge of Gender theories are invited to submit applications. Since teaching and administration at the University of Zurich take place almost entirely in German, a working knowledge of the language would be an asset. Commitment to acquiring a fluency in German within a period of 2 years is expected.</FONT></SPAN></P>
