<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">The School of History and Politics is seeking to appoint an experienced scholar to devise and teach upper-level courses in the history of the Middle East/Islamic World and its relations with the West in the modern era. The area of research specialisation is open. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of the Discipline of History's first-year courses, and to contribute to the Faculty?s International Studies programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">The Discipline of History is part of the School of History and Politics. The School has strong teaching and research interests in the history and politics of Australia, Asia and Europe, and in international studies from the early modern period. In addition to teaching into the Bachelor of Arts and Social Science degrees, it is responsible for the delivery of an undergraduate degree program in International Studies, and postgraduate coursework programs in Art History, Gastronomy and International Studies. It also has over eighty graduate students working toward the research degrees of MA and PhD.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">You should have:</FONT></SPAN>

<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">· a PhD or equivalent in the history of the Middle East/Islamic World and a sound reading knowledge of Arabic · evidence of an ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level and to supervise Honours and postgraduate students · the ability to teach and communicate effectively with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Arial">Salary: (Level B) AU$63,487 - AU$75,392, plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies.</FONT></SPAN>
