Middle East Project: Summer Internships<BR></STRONG><BR>The long term vision of 
the Center for Higher Education in the Middle East, Inc. is the creation of a 
permanent network of interconnected academic centers throughout the Middle East 
and North Africa (MENA) dedicated to the educational development of the region, 
and the promotion of cross-cultural exchange, regional cooperation and respect 
for the equal human dignity of all people from all MENA 
communities.<BR><BR>During its nine years of existence, the University of the 
Middle East Project has implemented programs in Boston, USA, Casablanca and 
Rabat, Morocco, and Toledo, Spain in the fields of Teacher Education, Education 
Leadership, Conflict Resolution, and Civic Engagement. Participants of these 
programs are secondary school teachers from throughout the Middle East and North 
Africa who engage in an intensive one-month educational experience. UME programs 
are designed to enhance academic and practical skills, as well as to promote 
open communication and mutual respect and understanding.<BR><BR>PLEASE SEE OUR

face="Palatino Linotype">UME interns will work closely with UME Staff and 
Faculty to implement a program focusing on teacher education during the summer 
of 2006 at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, USA. Participants are 28 
secondary school teachers from Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, 
Palestine, and Tunisia.<BR><BR>Duties will include program administration, 
facilitating cultural understanding, logistical support, event planning, and 
research. Boston based graduate students with concentrations in education and 
experience teaching high school students are preferred, as well as speakers of 
Arabic, Hebrew, and the Berber languages of Morocco and Algeria.<BR><BR>Students 
and graduates of other disciplines such as international relations, 
anthropology, archaeology, sociology, cultural studies, conflict 
negotiation/transformation, as well as the arts and music of the MENA region are 
also encouraged to apply.<BR><BR>UME does not provide housing in Boston during 
the summer. Interns are also required to have an interview in person with UME 
staff at the Cambridge offices. Academic Credit can be arranged with your 
department or advisor.<BR><BR>This is a wonderful opportunity with an exciting
